L E A D E R S H I P

Leadership in the classroom is naturally set up for the teacher to be the leader of the room, with the students following. However, it is the teacher's responsibility to earn the leadership role through their facilitation of quality educational experiences. In this light, I aim to be an approachable and flexible leader who is quick to admit their own faults as a model of vulnerability and the ability to accept growth opportunities where they arise.

When students observe or discover a mistake, I thank them for their help and do not allow ego to replace my sense of humanity. I model humility and the ability to learn from my mistakes as they arise, and I attempt to connect with students when I do this to strengthen relationships. By demonstrating my own ability to manage my emotions efficiently and displaying vulnerability, I aim to inspire my students to do the same.

As I am only in my second nine-weeks as a first-year teacher, I have not yet developed the experience or confidence to assume any leadership roles within my school. I hope to achieve this within the next five years of my career, and connect this to my overall growth as a teacher, applying what I learn in leadership roles back into my practice in the classroom.
